Snow!, and Courageous Women

It is absolutely beautiful here in Raton when it is snowing in the mountains. The clouds and the mountains seems to merge and blend in swirls of white so that it is difficult to discern where one begins and the other ends. Life metaphor here – how I feel when I am in a state of meditation or prayer – connected with my source. What a wonderful image for me.

I want to take a moment to applaud courageous women. Last night it was really blowing snow, and apparently over the mountain pass and into Trinidad, CO, it really snowed alot – 6-8 inches. And through it a young woman drove to work in the blowing snow and gusting winds, through a winding mountain pass in the morning darkness, 4X4 in gear and not thinking twice about it.  My own drive through the 2-3 inches that covered the roads on the three to four miles of pavement between the hospital and my apartment seem hardly relevant in comparison – but for me, that drive was monumental in its simplicity.   I am reminded of previous years in Nashville when the merest hint of snow or ice on the roads would set my heart racing and the creeping tendrils of fear leading to panic would grip my thinking, even when I was not the driver.  For some reason, I have Albuquerque in the middle of a snow storm. And through it all, I have felt calm and composed. Matter of fact really. Isn’t that amazing. Maybe it is because of this deeper sense that I am on the right path and am being cared for – basically that I will be okay, whatever comes. And with that kind of feeling, the fear just doesn’t hold up. So why I may not be up for traversing mountain passes in the dark in a foot of snow and more blowing, where I am is really a good place to be.
